As Healing Touch for Animals® practitioners, we pour our hearts into supporting the health and well-being of the animals we care for. But in the midst of giving so much, it’s essential to remember: you can’t pour from an empty cup. This July, we encourage you to take a moment to assess your own wellness and embrace self-care practices that support your energy, clarity, and balance, especially during the summer season.

As individuals, self-care can look a bit different from person to person, but we want to give you some reminders to focus on when you’re thinking about how to refill your own cup.

Balance starts with you. Daily balance is the cornerstone of any effective practitioner. Take time each day to center yourself, whether through meditation, journaling, movement, or quiet reflection. Remember that using HTA techniques on yourself creates very effective energetic balance for you, too, just as it does for the animals. Just a few mindful minutes can help recalibrate your nervous system and strengthen your energetic presence.

Stay nourished and hydrated. Summer’s heat can deplete our systems quickly. Focus on fresh, seasonal foods rich in nutrients, and make hydration a priority. Herbal teas, infused water, and electrolyte-rich beverages can help keep your body functioning optimally. Don’t skip meals… balanced nutrition supports both physical and energetic resilience.

Respect the heat. Working with animals in the summer months often means being outside. Protect yourself from extreme temperatures with sun protection, breathable clothing, and regular breaks in the shade or indoors. Listen to your body — fatigue, dizziness, or headaches are signs to rest and cool down.

Make time for joy. Self-care isn’t just about what we avoid, it’s also about what we invite in. Make space for joy this summer. Whether it’s a walk in nature, a creative project, or simply connecting with friends, nourishing your spirit enhances the healing work you do for others.

Taking care of yourself is not a luxury — it’s part of your HTA practice. You are an essential part of the healing process so remember to care for yourself, too! And let your animals reciprocate the love and care you give to them each day.
